KS Hosalikar, Head, Department of Climate Research and Services, IMD, Pune, on Saturday emphasized the importance of knowledge sharing.
“We are not afraid to share our knowledge. The fear comes when we have limited knowledge,” Hosalikar said at a joint technical-scientific brainstorming session organized by the Indian Meteorological Society Pune Chapter (IMSP).
The program focused on the role of technological development in addressing environmental and agricultural challenges.
Session IMSP President Dr. Milind Muzumdar’s welcome speech started, followed by Dr. Associate Dean of Agriculture College. Mahanand Mane and President of ISRS Sajivan Ji commented.
Chief Guest, IITM Pune Director Dr. R. Krishnan, in his opening address, emphasized the important role of data and technology in solving climate problems.
Hosalikar explained how the IMD has been providing weather information to the public for the past 150 years.
He gave information about various mobile apps designed for farmers. He emphasized the importance of cooperation between government institutions, non-governmental organizations and academic institutions.
Dr. Krishnan shared insights on global warming and its consequences. He highlighted the huge amount of data currently available and emphasized the need for its proper utilization to obtain meaningful information and promote new research.
Sajivan highlighted the use of remote sensing technology in agriculture, including crop growth monitoring, disease tracking, and crop planning, supported by AI advances.
The event also celebrated the retirement of KS Hosalikar, recognizing his significant contribution to meteorological research and public outreach. Shirish Rawal of Earth Sight Foundation emphasized on providing weather information to grassroots communities.
The program also showcased various research activities related to weather, climate, agriculture and allied sciences. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by IMSP Secretary Dr TP Sabin.
