HDK promises to follow the demand of IIT in Mandya

Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel HD Kumaraswamy on Sunday promised that he would pursue the Center’s demand to set up an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Mandya or Mysore region.

“Former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda fought to bring an IIT to Hassan. Finally, the IIT was awarded to the state and set up in Dharwad. The demand for another IIT in the state will be taken up with the Centre,” said Union Minister Dinesh Gooli Gowda, MLC, to set up an IIT near Krishnaraja Sagar in the district or Mysore. “After more than 15 years of struggle, IIT was given to the state. I am with the people in their demand for another IIT,” he said.

Mr. Kumaraswamy pointed out that serious efforts are also being made to bring industries to Mandya, Tumkuru and North Karnataka districts to create employment for the local youth. He said that if the state government supports his ministry, they will try to establish industries in this area and provide employment to the youth who are facing unemployment problem.

Conference in Delhi

He said that the Kannada Sahitya Parishad may consider organizing a Kannada Sahitya Sammelan in New Delhi. “Before KSP president Mahesh Joshi leaves office, the conference could be held in Delhi,” felt Mr. Kumaraswamy.

The Union Minister said that he is making sincere efforts to revive Visvesvaraya Iron and Steel Limited (VISL) and watch manufacturing company Hindustan Machine Tools (HMT) after taking charge of the ministry in Narendra Modi’s cabinet.

₹ 15,000 crore was required to revive VISL and HMT. He said that the process of their revival has progressed.
