Gujarat: Malawi national arrested for ‘overstaying student visa’ Ahmedabad news

Anand District Police on Thursday arrested a 24-year-old Malawian national for overstaying his student visa, which expires in August 2024.

The accused, identified as Chinula Abel, was arrested from Ahmedabad’s Chandkheda area on Friday evening, police said. The incident came to light when the Special Task Group (SOG) of Anand District Police was checking the identity cards of foreign nationals in the district.

According to the police, after learning that the student visa of Abel, who is studying at a private university in Changa area of ​​the district, has expired in August 2024, the SOG registered an FIR at Mahelao police station, but he “is yet to leave the country.”

Pramod Deora, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Petlad taluk, under whose jurisdiction Mahelav police station is located, said, “The SOG found that the East African student had not left the country after the expiry of his legal student visa… the same fact was proved. GS Gadhvi, sub-inspector of Mahelao police station, said Abel was staying in Chandkheda in Ahmedabad and was formally arrested.
