Curbs were removed in Delhi and NCR under Phase IV of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) on Tuesday, following an improvement in air quality following rains.
The average air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 369 on Tuesday, in the ‘very poor’ range. As the weather will improve, further improvement is expected in the coming days.
The restrictions to be lifted are ban on all construction activities, entry of non-essential polluting trucks into Delhi, and mandatory shift of classes to hybrid mode except for classes 10 and 12 and ban on BS III petrol and BS. IV Diesel Vehicles. Curbs under Phase I, II and III will remain applicable.
Delhi has witnessed severe pollution in December this year, with six ‘severe’ air quality days so far. The calm air has helped to collect the pollutants.
However, light rain in some parts of the city on Tuesday helped to improve the situation. Many areas of central, south and east Delhi received rain till evening.
The day temperature was recorded at 20.8 degrees Celsius, which is normal for this time of the year. The minimum temperature was 9.9 degrees Celsius, two notches above normal.
