Hyderabad: The Telangana government has announced plans to expand affordable IVF services across the state, with a new center soon to be set up in Hyderabad. Health Minister Damodar Rajnarsingh during a question-and-answer session in the Legislative Parliament on Thursday mentioned the alarming rise in the incidence of infertility, which according to recent studies now affects 26 percent of the population.
There are currently 358 private fertility centers in the state, but government-run IVF services remain sluggish despite promises made in 2017. While the previous government had issued GO 520 to set up IVF centers at Gandhi Hospital, Petalaburj Maternity Hospital and MGM Hospital in Warangal. , none were functional until now.
Gandhi Hospital’s IVF center, technically inaugurated in 2023, does not have an embryologist, gynecologist or necessary medicine to operate, Rajnar Singh said. “After taking over, we ensured the appointment of staff, procured all the necessary reagents and medicines and made the center fully operational.
By October 15,” he said.
Similarly, IVF service was started on December 9 after appointing an embryo specialist and providing necessary resources at Petlaburj Hospital. The centers now offer a range of fertility treatments including follicular studies, intrauterine insemination and IVF procedures.
Meanwhile, work on the MGM Hospital in Warangal continues, with plans to commission it soon.
