Shortly after, a delegation of Congress MPs, including women MPs, approached the Parliament Street Police alleging that Congress President Mallikarjuna Kharge was abused by BJP leaders during the scuffle in the Parliament premises.
Congress MP Digvijay Singh accused the BJP of resorting to drama to divert attention from the comments made about Dr BR Ambedkar.
“It is in BJP’s character to make false allegations. They (BJP) have organized this ‘drama’ and ‘gimmick’ to refute what they have said about Babasaheb Ambedkar… All this is due to the confrontational style of BJP MPs. Mallikarjuna. Kharge pushed And abused,” Singh told reporters.
Congress MP Pramod Tiwari also described the incident as a “conspiracy” and claimed that Mallikarjuna Kharge was deliberately pushed.
“The way a Dalit leader was mistreated the day before yesterday and pushed today – this is all a conspiracy,” said Tiwari.
Congress MP JB Mather alleged that BJP MPs conspired to disrupt their peaceful protest. “We took out a peaceful rally from Babasaheb Ambedkar’s statue to Makardwar. Since these days we have been protesting peacefully. Today the ruling party has hatched a conspiracy – the behavior of BJP MPs, Mallikarjun Kharge ji, Priyanka Gandhi. MPs from the NDA and Bharat Bloc protested in the Parliament premises, when the two sides clashed, injuring two BJP MPs. BJP MP Pratap Chandra Sarangi alleged that he was injured after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi pushed another MP. Sarangi claimed that he was standing near the stairs when another Member of Parliament (MP) fell on him and injured his head.
He was taken to the ambulance for treatment.
“I was standing near the stairs when Rahul Gandhi came and pushed a fellow MP. The MP fell on me, due to which I also fell,” Sarangi told reporters.
Both the MPs were admitted to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi. Reacting to the allegations, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in his defense said that he was trying to enter Parliament when he too was pushed and threatened by BJP MPs who were protesting near the entrance. He also accused Congress President Mallikarjuna Kharge of pushing him.
“It could have happened on your camera. I was trying to enter through the Parliament entrance, but the BJP MPs were trying to stop, push and threaten me. It has happened… yes, it has happened (pushing Mallikarjuna Kharge. Rahul Gandhi told reporters.
Earlier today, BJP MPs led by party leader Anurag Thakur approached the Delhi Police to file a complaint against Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of “assault and incitement”.
