Former Karnataka Chief Minister Nijlingappa’s house to be made a memorial, handed over to district administration for reconstruction

Former Karnataka Chief Minister Late S Nijalingappa’s house was handed over to the Chitradurga district administration on Monday (December 16, 2024) for conversion into a memorial.

KEB Shanmukhappa, trustee of the S. Nijlingappa Memorial Trust, handed over the key to Deputy Commissioner T. Nijlingappa’s residence in VP Extension, Chitradurga. Venkatesh and handed over to Additional DC BT Kumaraswamy.

After taking possession, both the officers looked at the condition of the house.

Speaking to the media later, Venkatesh said that the house was purchased last week as per the instructions of the government and the reconstruction work will be started soon.

There is a plan to complete the citizen’s work and after raising the issue before the government, the process of turning the house into a monument will be started. Engineers have been asked to immediately assess the situation, prepare an estimate and carry out repairs,” he said.

The house was purchased from the legal heirs of Mr. Nijlingappa at a cost of Rs.4,18,49,016 as per estimates of the Public Works Department. β€œAfter the purchase, we still have Rs 80 lakh which will be utilized for civil works. If we need more money, we will approach the government,’ he said.

Mr. Venkatesh said that the pictures, gifts and other materials used by Mr. Nijlingappa will be preserved with the help of archeological experts and the house will be turned into a memorial and museum.
