A roadside fast food cart operator committed suicide on Facebook live in Haryana’s Jind district between Thursday and Friday midnight.
The deceased has been identified as 26-year-old Sanjeev Thakur from Bihar.
People saw her live post and some of her neighbors rushed to her house, and took her to Civil Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival.
Thakur’s wife Kiran Devi told the police that she and her husband hailed from Katihar district of Bihar. The couple had taken a loan of 2.5 lakhs from some people in the village but could not repay it. They had migrated to Jind a few months back to escape moneylenders. Thakur started selling fast food from a cart in Jind’s Vishwakarma Colony but could not repay the loan.
In his last FB post, Thakur said he had a fever of 102 degrees and believed he would not survive. He added that people should forgive him for his mistakes and that he was ending his life.
Inspector Manish Kumar, City Police Station, Jind, told The Indian Express that the deceased was mentally disturbed for the last few days as he and his wife were unable to repay the loans they had taken. “His wife has said that she does not suspect any foul play. We have started an investigation and will hand over the body of the deceased to the family after the post-mortem,” he said.
