Former Prime Minister of India Dr. Manmohan Singh passed away on Thursday (December 26, 2024) at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi. He was the 14th Prime Minister of India and the first Sikh to hold the post.

AIIMS said in a statement, “With deep sorrow, we announce the passing away of Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India, at the age of 92. He was being treated for an age-related health condition and experienced a sudden fainting at home. On December 26, 2024. Resuscitation Measures were immediately started at home.He was brought to AIIMS in New Delhi at 8:06 PM.Despite all efforts, he could not be revived He was pronounced dead at 9:51.
Dr. Singh, an eminent economist, played a pivotal role in sustaining the nation’s economy, especially during the financial crisis of 2000. He is best remembered for his historic contribution as finance minister under Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao in 1991, when he spearheaded economic reforms that opened India’s economy to the world. His efforts significantly reduced poverty and catapulted India to global economic prominence during challenging times.
Dr. Singh retired from the Rajya Sabha in April this year after representing Rajasthan in his last term. Earlier, he served as a member from Assam in the Upper House for six consecutive terms from 1991.
