The AIADMK on Saturday accused the ruling DMK regime of being “administratively incompetent” to deal with the rains and said the government should bear responsibility for the damage caused by floods in Villupuram, Cuddalore and Kallakurichi districts.
AIADMK Rajya Sabha member C.V. led the protest here demanding relief for all those affected by the floods. Shanmugam said the Tamil Nadu government had issued an advisory to the tehsildar of Thandrampet in Thiruvannamalai district before releasing only 3 lakh cusecs of water into the Thenpennai river.
Alleging that there is inequality in the distribution of relief to the flood victims of three districts, he said that the government had distributed Rs 6,000 in Chennai and Rs 2,000 to ration card holders during last year’s floods.
Mr. Shanmugam claimed that relief has not been distributed to the affected areas in several villages so far. Only after the AIADMK announced a protest in Villupuram did the district administration release a statement detailing the damage caused by the cyclone. The relief money promised by the government should be distributed to all the affected sections, he said.
