After the death of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh late on Thursday, the Karnataka government has announced seven days of mourning. It has also declared a holiday for schools and colleges on Friday (December 27).

KPCC President and Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar made the announcement on the second day of the centenary of the Belgaum Congress session being celebrated in the border town of Belagavi, in view of Mr. Singh’s demise.

A huge public meeting was planned in Belagavi. He announced that he will organize a mourning meeting at the same place. AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha have left for Delhi.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who is visiting New Delhi to pay his last respects to Mr. Singh, visited X and said: “A statesman of unparalleled intellect, his leadership and vision left an indelible mark on our nation. I became the Chief Minister of Karnataka for the first time during his prime ministership. Our budget His encouragement of measures and the impact of landmark UPA policies like the Right to Food Act shaped Karnataka’s progress and welfare initiatives.” The Chief Minister added that Mr. Singh’s legacy “will continue to inspire generations.”

The Deputy Chief Minister, who was on his way to Delhi, said that with Mr. Singh’s death, “an era defined by politicking, honesty and quiet power has come to an end.” “His vision for the nation as both prime minister and economic architect truly speaks volumes about his resilient leadership at one of its most defining moments,” he added.

Political leaders crossed the party barrier and paid tribute to the late leader. The BJP has called off a protest in Bengaluru on Friday.
