Hyderabad: Japan’s industrial city of Hamamatsu, where global automobile giants such as Suzuki Motor are headquartered and Honda Motor was founded, has tied up with IIT-Hyderabad to cater to the needs of skilled professionals in engineering.
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Thursday to create avenues for human resource exchange, research collaboration, and Indian talent to integrate into Hamamatsu’s innovation ecosystem.
“We aim to strengthen industries while building deep cultural understanding between Japan and India,” said Hamamatsu Mayor Yusuke Nakano, who is visiting Hyderabad. The deal is expected to increase opportunities for Indian professionals while providing Japanese industries with access to a wider talent pool.
Talks about the partnership began in January 2023, IIT Hyderabad Director Prof. Due to the initiatives of BS Murthy and former mayor of Hamamatsu, Yasutomo Suzuki. Over the past year, both sides sought practical cooperation, culminating in an MoU.
“This collaboration is unique as it enables cross-border partnerships between academia and industry. It also supports a broader vision of mutual growth between our nations,” said Prof. Murthy.
For Indian students and researchers, the tie-up provides exposure to Japan’s advanced industrial ecosystem, while Japanese companies benefit from Indian expertise in engineering and technology.
