Day 20 Live Updates of Parliament’s Winter Session: Motion to move ONOE Bills to JPC in Lok Sabha today (ANI)

Parliament Day Winter Session 20 Live Updates: Both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha were adjourned for a few minutes yesterday after opposition MPs protested Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks about Dr BR Ambedkar at the conclusion of the Constitution debate. Bharat Bloc MPs protested in the Parliament premises, carrying banners of BR Ambedkar and demanding an apology from Shah. Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge has also demanded his resignation from the Cabinet regarding Shah’s comments. There is a possibility that the uproar will continue in both the Houses over this issue for the next 20 days.

ONOE Bill, Ambedkar row in focus: Union Law Minister Arjun Singh Meghwal will table the proposal to pass the ‘One Nation One Election’ Bill in the Lok Sabha on Thursday in the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC). The list of JPC members was announced on Wednesday evening, which included a mix of Indian and NDA MPs. Meanwhile, ruckus and debate over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s Dr BR Ambedkar remarks is expected to continue in the Rajya Sabha today, with Wednesday’s meeting adjourned due to persistent protests by opposition MPs.

JPC has announced to review the ‘One Nation One Election’ Bill. The parliamentary committee to study the ‘One Nation, One Election’ Bill has 21 members from the Lok Sabha and 10 members from the Rajya Sabha. The panel includes Congress leaders Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Manish Tiwari, NCP’s Supriya Sule, TMC’s Kalyan Banerjee and BJP’s PP Chaudhary, Bansuri Swaraj and Anurag Singh Thakur. If Meghwal’s proposal is accepted, the JPC will review the Constitution Amendment Bill on ‘One Nation, One Election’ and an additional bill to amend the Government of Union Territories Act, 1963.
