As Punjab farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal’s fast to death entered its 27th day on Sunday, doctors said his condition was “critical”.

Doctors involved in his treatment at the Khanuri border protest site reiterated that Dallewal was at risk of heart attack and multiple organ failure.

Dallewal is coming back positive for orthostatic hypotension, a form of low blood pressure that can cause dizziness or headaches and possibly fainting, he said.

“He is hemodynamically unstable (unstable blood movement resulting in inadequate blood flow). Usually such patients need to be admitted to the ICU. He is at risk of cardiac arrest and his condition is critical,” said the doctor.

The statement also said that former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi met Dallewal at the protest venue on Saturday evening.

Quoting leaders of two farmers’ bodies, the statement said that since Parliament is the supreme body in the country, the Center should accept the recommendations of the parliamentary committee and legislate to provide legal guarantees for MSP.

Stating that Dallewal had selflessly risked his life for the country’s farmers, Channi said he conveyed to the farmer leader Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s concerns about his health and welfare.
Citing farmers’ leaders, the press release said that in support of Dallewal’s hunger strike, a candlelight march will be held across the country at 5:30 pm on January 24.

On the completion of one month of Dallewal’s fast on December 26, a symbolic fast will be held at the tehsil and district levels from 10 am to 4 pm.

Meanwhile, on Sunday evening, former Congress minister Vijay Inder Singla also reached the demonstration site Dallewal. Singla assured the mediapersons that Dallewal would help the farmers on behalf of the Congress.
He also emphasized on tie-up with special teams of doctors from PGI and AIIMS for better treatment.
