Tirupati: Bharat Petroleum Corporation (BPCL)’s establishment of a greenfield refinery and petrochemicals complex near Ramayapatnam, at an investment of Rs 95,000 crore, is a “significant milestone” in the industrial development of Nellore district.

Informing this on Thursday, Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy expressed pride that such a big project was built during his tenure as MP. “It will transform the industrial and economic aspects of this region,” he said.

The MP gave special thanks to Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu and acknowledged that his push helped in the approval of the project. He also praised Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan for his support in the implementation of the project.

Spread over 5,000 acres, the BPCL project is expected to provide direct employment to 5,000 people and casual work opportunities to around one lakh workers during the construction phase. Out of the total investment of Rs 95,000 crore, an initial allocation of Rs 6,100 crore has been made for initial activities, he said.
