The Congress party is going to hold a nationwide protest on December 24 (Tuesday) against Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s comments about BR Ambedkar.

MPs of all parties and Central Working Committee members are holding a press conference on December 22 (Sunday) and 23 (Monday) regarding Shah’s comments.

General Secretary (Organization) KC Venugopal has issued a circular to all party leaders. The circular accessed by ANI states that ‘Babasaheb Ambedkar Samman March’ will be taken out in every district of the country.

The rally will begin by garlanding Ambedkar’s statue and continue till the submission of memorandums to honor the District Magistrates (DM).

In the press conference, MPs and CWC members have prepared to address journalists in their respective constituencies.

During the winter session of Parliament that concluded yesterday, Indian Bloc MPs staged several protests after HM Amit Shah’s remarks in Parliament on December 18, criticized the Congress for making it ‘fashionable’ to invoke Ambedkar’s name.

Shah said, ‘If they had taken the name of God many times instead of Ambedkar, they would have got heaven for seven lives.

The Congress criticized the BJP and Shah, demanding an apology for his remarks and his resignation, calling it an “insult” to Ambedkar.

During the protest in Parliament, the BJP staged a parallel protest with the Congress, in turn accusing the BJP of insulting the legacy of India’s first law minister.

During the protest, both sides clashed in the Parliament premises, in which two BJP MPs, Pratap Sarangi and Mukesh Rajput, were injured. Mallikarjuna Kharge has alleged that he was also pushed.

Kharge alleged that BJP MPs pushed him as he tried to enter Parliament during a face-off.

Addressing a press conference with Rahul Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, who is the Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha, accused Amit Shah of talking to the media without looking at the facts about his comments related to Ambedkar.

“The statements made by the government and especially the Prime Minister and Union Home Minister Amit Shah about Dr BR Ambedkar are very sad and he (Amit Shah) addressed the press conference yesterday without looking at the facts. They should look at the facts. Jawaharlal Nehru, insulting Dr BR Ambedkar ,” he said.
