Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will discuss with interested parties to sponsor houses for landslide victims in Wayanad, Revenue Minister K. Rajan said.
Addressing a press conference here on Friday, Rajan also said that the government plans to release the first phase beneficiary list for the townships proposed under the rehabilitation soon. This preliminary list contains 388 names.
According to the Minister, the Chief Minister will discuss with states, institutions and organizations willing to invest in rehabilitation work. 38 agencies have expressed interest in doing construction work as part of the restoration.
Legal issues
Rajan said that the government is ready to go ahead with the township project as soon as a favorable decision is made in the case filed by the land owner whose land has been identified. From a short list of nine estates, the government had identified Harrisons Malayalam’s Nedumbala Estate in Meppadi and Alstone Estate in Kalpetta. The minister said that the government has informed the court that it is ready to pay the land rent.
Mr. Rajan said that the restoration will be completed on time.
The minister’s assurance of restoration has come at a time when the state government is being criticized for the slow pace of the restoration process.
