The Indian Embassy in Tripoli is “closely following” the situation of a group of Indian workers in Libya who traveled to that country without proper documents and is working to facilitate their return, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Friday (Dec 20, 2024). ).
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal told reporters that the Indian embassy is in touch with the Libyan authorities to arrange the exit permits for workers at a cement company in Libya.
“These Indian workers reached Benghazi via Dubai. They went there but did not have proper documents. When they landed, they had some problems in their work… We know about these difficulties… We have an embassy in Tripoli. We are there through our community. reached out to our workers,” Mr. Jaiswal said at his weekly briefing.
“And, we have given them a helping hand, we have arranged for their food, for their daily living materials. Our CDA (Charge d’Affaires) in Tripoli has also met these workers. This happened, I think, on November 4,” He said.
Since these people had gone to Libya without proper documents, now to exit the country, they need an exit permit as per Libyan guidelines, the MEA spokesperson said.
“The embassy is in contact with the Libyan authorities to arrange their exit permit. The exit permit has taken some time because they went there without proper documents. But, after this exit permit, all these people who are in difficulty. Our embassy will facilitate their return home, Our embassy is in touch with them, their employers and is looking after them, and we are closely following the situation and developments,” he added.
