China’s Ankapalli family has set a Guinness World Record

Visakhapatnam: A four-member family from Ankapalli, living in China, has set many Guinness World Records in yoga and sports. Kontala Vijay, his wife Jyoti, their 14-year-old daughter Jasmita and their four-year-old son Shankar have entered the Guinness Book of Records by showing their skills.

“We are proud to be the only family in the world to get a place in the Guinness Book of World Records for yoga and sports,” Vijay told the Chronicle.

In 2021, Konatal Vijay held the Guinness World Record for the longest duration performing advanced yoga asanas such as Ashtavakrasana, Mayurasana and Bakasana. He has also been featured in Asian Book of Records, India Book of Records and Nobel World Records.

His wife Jyoti also entered the Guinness Book of Records in 2021 for doing Vrikshasana, Samakonasana, Sirshasana and Mandalasana for the longest time while fully pregnant. Five days later she gave birth to a son.

Jyoti declared, “This achievement shatters the common perception about physical exertion in late pregnancy. When practiced under proper guidance, yoga is safe and beneficial for both mother and child.”

Vijay and Jyoti’s teenage daughter, Jasmita, set a Guinness World Record for the fastest one-legged skip on a rope in one minute in June 2024.

Not to be outdone, their son Shankar in October 2024 set a Guinness World Record for the most skipping on a rope in one minute on a trampoline. 129 skips made Shankar the youngest person in the world to achieve such a record in the sport. He broke the 30-year-old record held by Japanese professional player Yu Okamoto.

The Konatala family aims to inspire the world by setting their own world records in yoga and sports.
