Chargesheet filed against Srinagar youth for allegedly ‘passing’ data of migrant Pandit employees to handlers in Pakistan

The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday (Dec 23, 2024) filed a chargesheet against a Srinagar resident for allegedly sending sensitive data about Pandit migrant workers to handlers in Pakistan to issue online threats.

The charge sheet was filed before the 3rd Additional Sessions Judge, Jammu. According to the Special Cell of Jammu and Kashmir Police, State Investigation Agency (SIA), it arrested Farhan Muzaffar Mattoo, a resident of Srinagar, for his alleged role in gathering and sharing sensitive information about targeted employees.

“Investigations revealed that Mattu used encrypted communication platforms to act as a conduit to send sensitive data about migrant workers to handlers in Pakistan, who then issued threats through the “Kashmir Fight” platform,” police said.

The SIA had launched an investigation in February this year after a series of threatening posts were published on social media from the terrorist outfit’s social media handle.

The chargesheet named Srinagar resident Sheikh Sajjad Ahmed alias Sajjad Gul, “now operating from Pakistan” as the mastermind of the conspiracy. “Sajjad is accused of coordinating a campaign to threaten migrant workers and disrupt communal harmony in UT,” the police said.

The police called the filing of the chargesheet a “significant step forward in the fight against cyber-terrorism”. It said the infamous “Kashmir Battle”, a social media handle operated by the Resistance Front (TRF), was used to issue “chilling online threats aimed at instilling fear and unrest among migrant Kashmiri Pandit employees”.

“The unmasking of terrorist plots to disrupt peace underlines the determination of the Jammu and Kashmir Police to protect its citizens and provide them with a peaceful environment,” the police said.
