At a rally in Tripura, Congress demanded Amit Shah’s resignation and apology over Ambedkar’s comments India news

The opposition Congress on Tuesday took out a protest rally in the capital of Tripura demanding the resignation and apology of Union Home Minister Amit Shah for his recent comments about BR Ambedkar.

The Congress organized a rally under the banner of Babasaheb Ambedkar Samman Yatra as part of a nationwide movement, where hundreds of party supporters condemned Shah’s remarks as insulting to the main framework of the Constitution.

After crossing the road to Agartala, the rally culminated in front of the West Tripura District Magistrate’s office, where the Congress delegation handed over a memorandum addressed to the President of India demanding strict action against the BJP leader.

“Now there is a fashion – Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar … Etna naam agar Bhagwan ka let to saath janmon tak swarg mil jaata (Now there is a fashion – Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar, Ambedkar.. You must have chanted the name of God many times, you have received the blessings of heaven in seven births,” Shah said in the Rajya Sabha on the occasion of 75 years of the Constitution of India. “We are happy that Ambedkar’s name has been taken,” before listing the Congress’s “injustice” on him.

Congress state president Ashish Kumar Shah, MLA Sudeep Roy Burman and others carried placards and posters of Ambedkar and raised slogans against the Union Home Minister. Similar protests were also held in Belonia in South Tripura and Pabiachera in North Tripura on Tuesday.

On December 19, Congress protesters burnt an effigy of Shah in Agartala, hours before his arrival in the state.
