Srinagar: A significant haul of narcotics and arms was jointly seized by the Indian Army and local police on Wednesday from an area near the Line of Control (LoC) in north-western Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.
The Army said it launched a search operation along with the Jammu and Kashmir Police at Chinotra in Amrohi area of ββTangdhar region after specific intelligence inputs led to the seizure of four kilograms of drugs and four pistols with six magazines and other ‘warfare’. – Like shops. It added that it has registered a case under Section 113 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 7/25 of the Indian Arms Act, 8/21 of the NDPS Act, and relevant provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act -UAPA. – and the investigation is underway “to identify the perpetrators and establish the back and forth relationship.”
The statement also said that the Kupwara Police has made “significant progress” in the fight against drug menace and narco-terrorist activities in the district throughout 2024. He said that due to the continuous efforts of the police, significant smuggling and criminal cases were recovered. So far this year, 21.82 kg of heroin, 2.37 kg of hashish, 30 kg of opium, 202 bottles of illegal liquor and 93 thousand 705 rupees in cash have been recovered. In addition to this, five residential properties of drug dealers have been confiscated for activities to destroy the drug network operating in the district.
