In a major bureaucratic reshuffle, the Union government on Wednesday appointed new secretaries for higher education, revenue, and personnel and training departments.
The Central Government has shifted Manipur Chief Secretary and 1992 batch IAS officer Vineet Joshi to Delhi in his new role as Secretary, Department of Higher Education.
The Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) has issued an order regarding Joshi’s appointment approved by the Appointments Committee (ACC) of the Council of Ministers. The post of Higher Education Secretary fell vacant after K Sanjay Murthy was appointed as the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India last month.
Joshi was appointed as the chief secretary of the state in May last year amid ethnic conflict and tension.
This came a day after the Union government announced new governorship appointments, including former Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla as Governor of Manipur and former Army Chief General VK Singh as Governor of Mizoram.
In another move, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the appointment of 1992 batch Bihar cadre IAS officer Arunish Chawla as Revenue Secretary and will also hold the additional charge of Secretary in the Ministry of Culture till he is appointed regularly. Current or additional orders that are prior.
Sanjay Malhotra took over as RBI governor earlier this month, leaving the post of revenue secretary vacant.
Chawla, who was earlier Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, will be replaced by Amit Agarwal, a 1993 batch IAS officer of Chhattisgarh cadre. Agarwal was earlier the Chief Executive Officer of UIDAI.
Sanjay Sethi, a 1992-batch Maharashtra cadre IAS officer, was appointed secretary of the National Commission for Minorities. Sethi, who is currently serving in his cadre, will serve as the new textile secretary, replacing Neelam Shammi Rao, a 1992-batch Madhya Pradesh cadre IAS officer.
Rao will replace 1991-batch Kerala cadre IAS officer Rachna Shah, who was transferred from the textiles ministry and posted as secretary in the personnel and training department.
Neerja Shekhar, a 1993 batch Haryana cadre IAS officer, has been appointed as Director General, National Productivity Council, under the Department of Industries and Domestic Trade Promotion. Shekhar was previously Special Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Communication.
