Vijayawada: Minority Welfare Minister NMD Farooq on Thursday announced that the AP government led by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu will provide an honorarium to imams and muezzins of mosques who have no income up to ₹5,000.
He revealed that the government has issued a GO to fix the salary of Imam at Rs 10,000 and that of Muazzen at Rs 5,000. He said that the continuation of honorarium will be implemented from April this year and this will cost the government Rs 90 crore annually.
Farooq stressed that the coalition government is giving top priority to the welfare of minorities in Andhra Pradesh.
The minister said that during the tenure of the previous government, the interests of minorities were hindered and people were left behind.
