On Thursday (December 19, 2023) morning, the body of an elderly woman was found allegedly buried in front of her house by her son. The deceased has been identified as Ali Peethambaran, 78, of Nediyattil Lane South, Vennala Division, Kochi Corporation. His son, 47-year-old Pradeep Peethambaran, has been detained by the Palarivattam police.
The police have not been able to confirm whether the victim’s son buried the body after natural death or whether there was any foul play involved. According to the police, the death may have occurred between Wednesday night and Thursday morning. The police recovered the body buried in a small pit in front of the house.
After some neighbors saw Pradeep digging a hole and burying his mother around 6.30 am, they informed the officials of their resident association.
“We immediately informed the Palarivattam police and the division councillor. Pradeep would often create trouble in the neighborhood under the influence of alcohol,” said Ajit Kumar, president of Surya Residents Association, Vennala.
When the police arrived, Pradeep was drunk.
Pradeep’s wife and elder son left home about 6 months ago. When his 16-year-old younger son was at home on Wednesday, it is said that Pradeep went out in the evening after drinking alcohol.
Ellie was diabetic and the doctor asked to amputate part of her leg due to an infection.
