An old man and his two granddaughters died in a fire at their house in Madhya Pradesh

A 65-year-old man and his two minor granddaughters were burnt to death in a fire in their hut in Madhya Pradesh’s Shivpuri district, police said on Sunday.

The incident took place at Lakshmipura village under Bairad police station at 11.30 pm on Saturday, an official said.

“Preliminarily suspected to be a house fire”angithiThe stove was lit to protect them from the cold,’ said Bairad police station in-charge Vikas Yadav.

He said that after getting information about the incident, the police and fire brigade reached the spot and brought the fire under control.

“Hazari Banjara (65) and her granddaughter Sandhya (10) died on the spot, while her other granddaughter Anushka (5) died on the way while being rushed to the hospital due to the fire,” the official said.

Bairad Tehsildar Dragpal Singh Vaish said that apart from other assistance to the families for the last rites of the deceased, financial assistance of Rs.4 lakh has been approved for each deceased.
