The winter session of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly was adjourned indefinitely on Thursday (December 19, 2024), after Samajwadi Party (SP) MLAs were upset over Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent statement on Dr BR Amdekar in the Rajya Sabha.

SP MLAs carried Dr Ambedkar’s picture and entered the well of the Assembly and raised slogans. Although Speaker Satish Mahana repeatedly asked for calm, the disruption continued after the second supplementary budget was passed without discussion and the meeting was adjourned. sine die.

Finance Minister Suresh Khanna targeted the opposition MLAs accusing them of deliberately disrupting the functioning of the House. “They have been constantly disrupting the house to prevent any meaningful discussion,” he said.

The second supplementary budget, with an outlay of Rs 17,865 crore, was passed unanimously, with Mr Mahan announcing its acceptance amid fanfare.

SP president Akhilesh Yadav said to the ruling BJP. Criticized for insulting Ambedkar, vowed to restore late leader’s honor. “BJP’s game of covering up its own crimes by blaming others is a very old one. BJP should not divert attention. All of us, who hold Babasaheb in high esteem and have immense respect for him, will never forgive the insult done to Babasaheb by the BJP. We promise to restore respect and honor to Babasaheb and his constitution only after removing the BJP from power,” he said.

On Thursday (December 19, 2024), SP MLA Atul Pradhan staged a protest under Dr Ambedkar’s statue in Hazratganj outside the Assembly. He was expelled from the meeting on the same day after a heated argument with the Speaker.

The winter session ended in four days without any significant debate.
