Opposition members on Thursday (Dec 19, 2024) staged a protest on the Vidhan Bhavan steps in Maharashtra’s Nagpur over Union Minister Amit Shah’s comments on Dr BR Ambedkar and said the country would not tolerate insulting the architect of the Constitution.
Leaders of Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) took out a march from Constitution Chowk in Nagpur wearing blue caps. Shouting slogans, they reached the steps of Vidhan Bhawan complex.Hindustan will not tolerate insulting Baba Saheb“.
Among the protesters were Legislative Council Opposition Leader Ambadas Danve, Congress Leader Nana Patole, Nitin Raut, Vijay Wadettiwar, Bhai Jagtap, Shiv Sena (UBT) MLAs Aditya Thackeray, Sachin Ahir, Varun Sardesai, Bhaskar Jadhav and Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad). Pawar) (NCP (SP)) MLA Rohit Pawar.
A major political row erupted on Wednesday (December 18, 2024) after the Congress and other opposition parties launched an all-out attack on Mr Shah for his comments about Ambedkar and demanded his sacking, while Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top Indian figures. Party (BJP) leaders rallied in his favour, saying he exposed the “anti-Ambedkar” stance of the Congress. Opposition members claimed that Mr. Shah’s comments were an insult to Ambedkar.

Congress general secretary communication in-charge Jairam Ramesh shared a video snippet on X of Mr. Shah’s speech in the Upper House of Parliament on Tuesday (December 17, 2024). The winter session of the Maharashtra Legislature is currently underway in Nagpur.
The members of the opposition party protested on the Vidhan Bhavan steps for the past three days over various issues including the farmers’ problem, the violence in Parbhani last week and the killing of a sarpanch of Beed district.
