All international operations at Pune International Airport, including passenger handling, baggage systems, security protocols, and operational workflows, shifted to the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) on Tuesday.

With the new services introduced by various airlines this year, five international flights have shifted their operations to NITB. Currently around 23 flights are operating at Pune airport, more than 80 percent of them are at the new terminal.

Pune airport director Santosh Dhoke said all international flights have been transitioned New buildingWhile only a few domestic flights operated by regional airlines like IndiGo and FLY91 are at the old terminal. He added that all operations will eventually be shifted to the new terminal.

NITB is spread over an area of ​​22,000 square meters and has a passenger handling capacity of 7 million annually. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new terminal in March and operations began in July. Recently, the airport recorded its highest ever flight traffic in a single day with 102 arrivals and 102 departures.

According to official statistics, the airport handles an average of 15,200 international passengers and around 8.23 ​​lakh domestic passengers per month. The data is based on records from January to October 2024.

Minister of State for Cooperation and Aviation Muralidhar Mohal said in a post on Monday X, β€œFrom tomorrow, December 24, 2024 Tuesday, all international flights will operate from Pune International Airport through the newly inaugurated terminal. All necessary technical procedures have been completed. Today I reviewed the arrangements with airport officials. This is an important step to enhance the travel experience for passengers.”

Dhoke clarified that there is enough space available in the new terminal and that the technical problems that had hindered them in the past have now been resolved. “All traffic and operations will be shifted to the second terminal,” he said.

Currently, Pune Airport operates five international flights on three routes namely Singapore, Bangkok and Dubai. IndiGo offers flights to both Dubai and Bangkok, while SpiceJet also serves Dubai. Air India (formerly Vistara) operates flights to Singapore, and Air India Express (AIX) offers flights to Bangkok.
