According to the CPCB, the AQI was measured at 246 in Delhi at 7 am on Sunday. On Saturday it was measured at 212. The temperature in the national capital has also dropped further. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the temperature in Delhi was measured at 6 degrees Celsius at 5.30 am on Sunday. A day ago it was 9.4 degrees Celsius.

AQI was recorded at 292, 256, 298 and 288 at Anand Vihar, Alipore, Bawana and Burari crossings respectively.

Dwarka recorded AQI at 258 in Sec 8, Nehru Nagar at 299, Rohini at 288, and Mundaka at 317.

An AQI between 0-50 is considered good, 51-100 satisfactory, 101-200 moderate, 201-300 poor, 301-400 very poor and 401-500 severe.

Meanwhile, as temperatures dipped into the low single digits, many people across Delhi took shelter in shelters.

Scenes from Jama Masjid area, AIIMS Delhi area and other areas showed people trying to sleep in cold conditions with thick blankets. Ved Pal, who works at a shelter near AIIMS Delhi, revealed that more than 40 people used the shelter on Saturday night.

“This is a family shelter, and here we give them a proper bed, and as many blankets as they want. They also get two meals a day, and tea and rusks in the morning,” he told ANI.

Talking about the health facilities available, he said that if anyone has any health problems, they will be seen by a doctor or taken to the nearest AIIMS hospital if needed.

“We have a first aid box here, when the doctor comes we give medicine according to his order, otherwise we try to help him reach the hospital. We keep common medicines like paracetamol,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department has warned of ‘cold wave to severe cold wave’ conditions in parts of north India, including Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

IMD Scientist, Soma Sen Roy, warned that the temperature is likely to drop by 1-2 degrees Celsius due to winds in North India. She also said that there will be a cold wave for one or two days in North and Central India.
