Worli MLA Aditya Thackeray on Tuesday wrote a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to take initiative to remove all political hoardings. He also alleged that the hoardings of the ruling party were still kept up and the hoardings of the opposition parties were removed.

“In the last two years, the BMC has removed selected posters, but the posters of the ruling party are still visible. If we put aside this childish political competition and decide that all political parties will not put up illegal posters, banners and hoardings, we can give a big relief to the citizens,” Mr. Thackeray wrote in the letter, which he shared as a screenshot. His post on social media platform X.

He further said that he had asked Mr. Fadnavis to issue a statement to all political parties and social organizations to remove their hoardings and expressed the Shiv Sena’s (UBT) interest in working with the government to implement the initiative by strictly following them. “As a party, we have also assured Fadnavis G takes steps for the ‘No Banner’ initiative, we will also support him and strictly adhere to it,” he said in the post.

Mr. Thackeray highlighted the political turmoil in Maharashtra as the source of the growing number of posters and banners in the state. Due to the political upheaval in the last two years, thousands of political posters (legal and illegal) have been seen in the streets of the city. As a citizen, it is sad to see this and as an individual, we are saddened by such posters that distort the city,” he said.

Mr. Thackeray’s comments on Twitter have assumed significance since the Mumbai High Court on December 19 came down strongly on hoardings that pose a security threat and affect the beauty of the city. A High Court hearing on unauthorized and illegal hoardings across Maharashtra will be held on January 27. 2025.
