A sculptor creates a replica of Christ the Redeemer in the eye of a needle

Warangal: Renowned micro sculptor Ajay Kumar has crafted a micro culture of ‘Christ the Redeemer’ statue in the eye of a needle to celebrate Christmas Day at Mattewada, Warangal.

While the original 30-meter statue is located in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the intricate eye-of-the-needle sculpture is 1.1 mm high and features Jesus’ fingers and folds in his robes.

Ajay Kumar used self-made wax, plastic powder and caterpillar hair dye. He spent more than two months and 90 hours to complete the work that can only be seen through a microscope.

Ajay Kumar is one of only three to four micro-artists in the world who create sculptures inside the eye of a needle. Last year, he sculpted ‘The Last Supper’ depicting Jesus with his twelve disciples at their last meal.

In 2018, Ajay Kumar sculpted a 0.95 mm high and 0.17 mm wide microscopic golden cross of Jesus in the eye of a needle. In 2019, he set a world record and was recognized five times by the Limca Book of Records.

Recipient of several national and international awards, Ajay Kumar was felicitated by former Prime Ministers PV Narasimha Rao, Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
