The Kolkata Police Detective Department arrested a 42-year-old man, Moktar Alam, from Dattapukur Niwas in North 24 Parganas district on Wednesday morning in connection with the fake passport case.
According to police sources, documents including fake PAN card, voter ID card, passbook and debit card have been recovered from him.
Alam was produced in the Alipore court on Wednesday, and has been sent to police custody till January 8.
Chief Public Prosecutor Saurin Ghoshal submitted to the court, ‘This person was bringing people from Bangladesh and sending them to European countries by providing them with fake documents like voter ID cards. Further inquiries are required for further investigation.”
Alam was earlier arrested in 2021 by Chuchura police station in a similar case but was later released on bail.
Last week, the Kolkata Police arrested five people for allegedly running a fake passport racket and selling fake documents for around Rs 2 to 5 lakh each.
According to police sources, the syndicate illegally issued at least 73 fake Indian passports to infiltrators, especially Bangladeshi nationals, using forged documents.
