The Madananayakanahalli police arrested a 30-year-old employee of a private company on Tuesday on the charge of killing a house owner over a petty dispute.
The deceased has been identified as 41-year-old Pradeep Shivalingaiah, the owner of the four-storey house, who had given a portion of the house to the accused, 30-year-old Chetan.
According to the police, both of them used to drink alcohol together and fight over common disputes. On Tuesday night, a tenant saw the TV playing in Chetan’s house and went to check but it was locked from inside. The next day, the neighbor saw the TV still playing at high volume and went to check and found Pradeep lying on the floor and Chetan missing. He called Pradeep’s family and informed the police. The police reached the spot and found Pradeep dead with multiple injuries on his head and burn marks all over his body.
The police later searched for Chetan, who was absconding, and during interrogation, Pradeep told the police that he used to come home to drink alcohol and urinate at home. Chetan had warned her several times and even complained to her family over the phone but in vain. On Tuesday night, when Pradeep urinated again in a drunken state, an enraged Chetan grabbed him by the hair, hit his head against the wall and smoked cigarettes all over his body. He kept the TV on full volume to avoid the screams of the neighbors torturing Pradeep. After a few minutes, Chetan realized that Pradeep was dead and locked himself in the house, police said.
