A DRG jawan died in an encounter with Maoists in Abujamad India news

A 36-year-old District Reserve Guard (DRG) jawan was killed in an encounter with Maoists in Abujamad on Wednesday afternoon.

According to Bastar Range Inspector General of Police Sundarraj P, security forces comprising the DRG and Border Security Force (BSF) were on a joint search operation when the encounter broke out in the forests of Sonepur and Kokhametta around 1 pm on Wednesday. Narayanpur is about 30 km away from the headquarters. Indiscriminate firing continued.

According to the police constable, Virendra Kumar Sori died on the spot.

A resident of Narharpur village in Kanker district — one of the seven Maoist-affected districts in Bastar region — Sori joined the Narayanpur police in 2010 and was promoted as head constable in 2018 for his service.

Security forces have intensified anti-Maoist operations in Abujahmad, which is larger than the state of Goa and located mainly in Narayanpur district, also known as Maad – a large tract of unsurveyed land. The campaign has killed more than 100 Maoists in that area.
