The Congress staged a protest at the office of the Accountant General (AG) here on Thursday against Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s remarks that allegedly insulted BR Ambedkar, the creator of the Indian Constitution.
The Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) led the protest and also burnt an effigy of Mr. Shah.
There was a protest after Mr. Shah said in the Rajya Sabha on Tuesday evening that he would have found a place in heaven if he chanted the name of God instead of repeating Ambedkar’s name in the fashion.
KPCC in-charge General Secretary M. Liju opened the protest and said Mr. Shah’s comments about Ambedkar were an “insult” to him and defied the Constitution. He also said that the false allegations made by Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi in the Lok Sabha that he had pushed some BJP MPs were aimed at dispelling public anger against Mr Shah.
