Nine people have been sentenced to five years in prison after being found guilty in the Guntur attempt-to-murder case

Chief Senior Judge Court Bapatla sentenced nine people to 5 years imprisonment and fined 5,000 to each in the killing industry case under Ponnur Town Police Station. The case involves charges under Sections 148, 307, 324 IPC r/w 149 IPC, Guntur Superintendent of Police (SP) S Satish Kumar informed in a statement on Thursday.

The incident took place on the night of April 23, 2019 at Telagapalem near Chinna Rama Mandiram in Ponnur. The dispute over the distribution of funds collected for the Shree Ram Navami festival has turned into violence. The accused attacked Yeluri Ramprasad with deadly weapons including iron rod, hammer and stone and seriously injured his head and body. Three other people who intervened to save Ram Prasad were also injured.

Investigated by Sub-Inspector (SI) R Swamy Srinivas, nine accused were found guilty in the case. Public Prosecutor M. Srikanth argued the case successfully. SP Satish Kumar praised the efforts of the police team and the witnesses for their role in ensuring justice. Justice G Vani has pronounced this judgment as an important step in the search for justice in the district.
