Hyderabad: In another incident, a student named Yashwant of Peddapur Gurukul Educational Institution in Jagtial district was bitten by a snake on Thursday.
This incident happened a day after a student named Akhil was bitten by a snake in the campus on Wednesday. Since July 2024 till date, there have been four cases of snakebite in the institute.
Akhil is undergoing treatment at Keshav Hospital while Yashwant is admitted at New Life Hospital in the district. However, doctors said that the condition of two students is stable. District Collector B Satyaprasad visited the institute and took information about the incident.
Ironically, instead of taking steps to prevent snakebites from July 2024, the district administration suspended the principal of the institute, Madhavi Lata. As the institute was surrounded by farmland, the snakes started coming out. Students and staff panicked.
The villagers said that the district administration should be blamed for the snake bite incident in Peddapur Institute. “How is the principal responsible for the snake bike incident when proper prevention measures were not in place?” they asked.
At least repellents should be kept in the institute to prevent snake entry. “Clamming and suspending the principal is not a permanent solution. This will only add to the ongoing problem. The administration should first find a solution to solve the snake problem in the interest of the students,’ they said.
After two consecutive snakebite incidents on Wednesday and Thursday, the administration should focus on finding a permanent solution to the problem, according to the villagers. Two students died from snake bites in July and August.
