The Union Home Ministry has reintroduced the protected area permit in Manipur in view of the security concerns arising due to influx from neighboring countries, a state government statement said.

“With this re-establishment, the movement of foreigners visiting Manipur will be closely monitored, and they will be required to obtain the requisite Protected Area Permit (PAP) as per the Foreigners (Protected Areas) Order, 1958,” a statement issued on Wednesday night said.

It said the Center has reimposed protected area permits in Manipur, Nagaland and Mizoram.

The statement said that the state government has taken note of the warning issued by the organization asking Chief Minister N Viren Singh not to participate in the cultural program through Kangpokpi district by road in Senapati district.

It said, “Upon investigation, no such organization (Kuki Joe Council) exists in Manipur. Many are skeptical about the origin and authenticity of this group.”

The statement said that the police is actively investigating the matter and an FIR will be registered to find out the true nature and intention of such deceptive activities.

The government urged the public to “exercise caution and not pay heed to statements or claims by organizations of dubious origin, which have recently emerged with the clear intention of creating confusion and unrest.”

The provincial government is committed to maintaining peace and harmony in the province and advised the citizens to be aware and trust only reliable sources of information.
