The state-run Shree Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Science and Research on Wednesday launched SUHRD, a safety mobile application developed for staff to combat any episodes of sexual harassment and violence against doctors.
With unique features like ‘Seek to Safety’, ‘SOS Alerts’, ‘GPS Tracker’ and option to send voice messages and file anonymous complaints, the mobile application will send emergency alerts to all employees who have downloaded it on their phones. . Anyone close to the victim can rush to help, said Jayashree Kharge, professor of cardiology at the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) hospital.
“The name SuHRD means good heart in Sanskrit. Through this app, we are also looking to develop an attitude among employees to stand up for their colleagues who are in distress. Anyone who is close to a person in distress can reach the spot and help,” said the doctor.
Shake to safety
Dr. Kharge and ICC Member Secretary Chandana NC, Associate Professor, Cardiovascular Thoracic Surgery (CVTS), received the app developed by Naveen Hegde from Codegress OPC Pvt. Ltd
He said, ‘It is designed according to our needs. ‘Sake to Safety’ feature is an easy way to send an SOS alert by shaking the mobile three times. During a crisis, the person panics and may not be able to open the app and send an alert,” explained the doctor.
He said all employees are encouraged to download the app. “It is compatible with both iOS and Android phones. Even those who don’t have a smartphone can get it by scanning the QR code. Wi-Fi connectivity has been provided on all floors and even in the basement,” added the doctor.
Jaydev Director KS Rabindranath said that this app has now been released for the employees of the main Jaydev Institute. “The campus of the main institute is huge with the new Infosys block. We have more than 2,000 employees here and this app will help ensure security in the premises, although no incident has been reported here yet,” he said.
It will also be issued at Jayadeva’s Mysuru and Kalaburgi branches respectively. Dr. Rabindranath said that the Directorate of Medical Education is willing to extend the service to all medical colleges in the state.
