WTC points table update after Gabba Test: India after PCT draw, third behind Australia Cricket News

ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 Points Table: India dropped their points percentage (PCT) in the WTC standings after being held to a draw by Australia in the third Border-Gavaskar Trophy match in Brisbane on Wednesday.

India’s PCT fell from 57.29 to 55.88, tied for second in the ongoing WTC cycle, despite four points taking its total to 114. Australia also reduced their PCT from 60.71 to 58.88 with the second draw of this edition. The defending champions are still in second place, behind South Africa (63.33), who are one win away from booking their place in next year’s WTC finals at Lord’s.

IND vs AUS Day 5 Highlights

India cannot afford another defeat and, at best, accept a draw in the remaining two Tests of the series to remain in contention for qualification for the WTC finals. Meanwhile, Australia have four matches left in the cycle, with a two-match series in Sri Lanka starting in late January.

India’s WTC final scenarios

  • If India wins the remaining two matches, it will finish with 138 points and a PCT of 60.52 and knock Australia out of the WTC finals race.
  • If India wins one match and draws the rest, they will finish with 130 points and a PCT of 57.01. Australia can reach the WTC final if they beat Sri Lanka 2-0.
  • If India draw Australia 2-2, they will finish with 126 points and a PCT of 55.26. In such a situation, Australia can take at least one win in Sri Lanka and advance India.
