Although the opposition BJP praised Speaker UT Khader for his gesture of completing all issues on the day’s agenda through marathon sessions, some leaders quipped that he should declare himself “MLA of the year”.

Cooperation between the ruling party and the opposition party

Later, the Speaker told a private TV channel that the main purpose of holding an extended session was to complete all the items on the agenda. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and opposition leader R. Ashok had helped him during telephone conversations with him about the plan, he said. He also pointed out that the members of the ruling party cooperated by letting the members of the opposition party raise their issues first as they had to attend the meeting.

It is yet to be officially confirmed whether Monday’s marathon session has set a new record as the House has continued business beyond 1 am on previous occasions as well. However, the House had started at that time.
