Maharashtra Congress chief Nana Pato on Tuesday (December 17, 2024) said that he is willing to resign from the post and now the party high command will take a decision on it.

Speaking to reporters at the Vidhan Bhawan premises, Mr. Patole said that the Congress group leader in the state legislature will be chosen today (December 17, 2024).

After the party’s worst defeat in the assembly elections in Maharashtra, party sources had earlier claimed that a senior Congress leader had requested the central leadership to relieve him of organizational post responsibilities. However, Mr. Patole clarified last week that he had not resigned and was spreading rumours.

Mr. Patole said that the Maharashtra in-charge of the Congress will arrive in the city on Tuesday evening (December 16, 2024) and the group leader of the party will be elected in the state assembly. He said that there will also be a discussion on the matter of the head of the state.

When asked if he had resigned from the post of provincial chief, Patole said, “I have expressed my wish, the party high command will decide on this.” In the recently-concluded assembly elections, the ruling Mahayutia retained power in the state by winning 230 of the 288 assembly seats. The opposition Mahavikas Aghadi has won 46 seats while the Congress has won only 16 seats.
