More than 5,000 participants, including defense personnel, fitness enthusiasts and others, took part in the fifth edition of the Kochi Navy Marathon-24 organized by the Southern Naval Command on Sunday (December 15).
The marathon, which started from the Sagarika International Cruise Terminal in Willingdon Island, featured three challenging events, the 21 km Venduruthi Run, the 10 km Dronacharya Run and the 5 km Garuda Run.
Southern Naval Command Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief Vice Admiral V. Srinivas, Rear Admiral Upal Kundu, Chief of Staff and Rear Admiral Satish Shenai, Chief Staff Officer (Training) ran 5 km, 10 km, and 21 km respectively.
In 21 km (open category), Mohamed Sabil was first, Collins Kipkrui Tsang and Gilbert Kipkosgei of Senegal were second and third respectively. In 21 km (women’s category), Indian Navy’s Somya won the first position, followed by Bismi Augustine and Rema AK.
Ajit K., Hemant Kumar (Indian Navy) and Subhashis Manna (Indian Army) in 10 km (open category), Jinsi G, Femin Tresa and Lt. Anushka Yadav (Indian Navy) in 10 km (women) were the top three .
