Insurance Cover for Libraries of Library Secretaries, Kerala State Library Council

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has announced insurance coverage for 15,000 secretaries and librarians affiliated to the Kerala State Library Council (KSLC).

He made the announcement while inaugurating the Kerala Library Council Training Institute at Mandirod, Udayagiri, Kasaragod on Sunday (December 15). The Chief Minister praised the initiatives of the library councils such as village-to-village ‘Balavedhi’, writing box in the library, reading festival, home library service for children, prison library etc.

Highlighting the developing role of the library, he said that it has transformed from a book store to a university of knowledge. Emphasizing the government’s digitization efforts, he urged the council to make college e-books accessible to the public and promote “knowledge for social change”.

The event was presided over by MLA NA Nellikunnu, who described the institute as “a beacon of light for Kasaragod”. Kasargod MP Rajmohan Unnithan, Granthlokam Editor-in-Chief PVK Panyal, Kasaragod District Library Council President KV Kunhiraman were present.

The Rs 2.25 crore training institute has been built on 27.5 cents of land allotted by the government. The program was attended by eminent personalities from the library movement and socio-cultural fields.
