After the governor’s letter, the recruitment of teachers and non-teaching staff in the university was stopped Mumbai News

Appointments of teaching and non-teaching staff in state universities have been further delayed as the Maharashtra governor’s office has directed vice-chancellors to stop the process, citing the code of conduct.

However, many in the university circle are now worried whether the admission process will be conducted now that the directives have come out after the Maharashtra assembly election results and the new state government is about to be formed.

The direction from the Maharashtra Governor’s office came in a letter dated November 26 addressed to the Vice-Chancellors of all state universities.

Mentioning that various proposals have been received in the Governor’s office regarding the selection committee for the appointment of university teachers, it is said in the letter, ‘The above proposal has been postponed keeping in mind the model code of conduct.

It has also directed to stop the process of selection and appointment of teaching and non-teaching cadres of the university until further order.

A University of Mumbai official explained, “For any appointment, a selection committee is formed which includes the person nominated by the Governor in his capacity as Chancellor of all the State Universities. After the recruitment advertisement, the universities may have approached the Governor’s office for this nomination which they have put on hold. Without a full selection panel, the recruitment process cannot proceed.”

Advertisements for admission in many universities have been out for the past few months.

After a long delay, the admission process has been announced. Because of this, after a long wait, many vacant posts of teaching and non-teaching staff, including major administrative posts such as deans of some faculties, are going to be filled through this process. But now with the new instructions, the process has become more delayed, said the senior teacher.

According to university officials, there may be some delay in the process as the new provincial government is in the process of being formed.

But the letter’s mention of a “model code of conduct” raised concerns among some.

A teacher said, ‘The model code of conduct is enforced during elections. But now the election process is not over, a letter came from the governor’s office a few days after the results of the election on 23rd November. Also, the letter asking to postpone the admission process also did not give clarity. timeline. All this leads us to question whether the government will continue the recruitment process or not.”
