After experiencing single-digit temperatures, Pune is expected to witness a few days of cloudy skies, with a chance of light rain, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.
According to the IMD, there is a possibility of light rain in the city from December 26 due to the water vapor air coming from the northern part of the country.
Anupam Kashyapi, the former head of the weather forecasting division, said that along with the southerly winds, moisture will invade from the Bay of Bengal. “Due to cold weather at night, isolated fog will be reported over some parts of Maharashtra including Pune,” he said.
Kashyapi said Pune will experience cloudy skies from Christmas (December 25). “Naturally, there is a possibility that the temperature will drop during the day with clouds and cold winds will blow throughout the day,” he said.
In the first week of December, Pune and its surrounding areas experienced a sharp drop in minimum temperatures. Some areas, such as the National Defense Academy, reported about 6 degrees Celsius lower.
Pune was one of the places affected by the cold wave conditions, which brought a significant drop in temperature.
The cold is mainly due to the low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal along with the flow of cold air from the north and low humidity levels.
Forecasts indicate that double digit temperatures are expected in Pune and surrounding areas for the next few days.
