AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami on Tuesday (December 24, 2024) urged the Tamil Nadu government to cancel the permission granted to IREL (India) Limited, formerly Indian Rare Earth Limited, for mining heavy minerals at Manavalkurichi in Kanniyakumari district.
Referring to the agitation proposed by a group of residents of the district on December 31 against the state government not taking any action to cancel the license, Mr. Palaniswami in a statement asked the government to meet the demands of the people. He said that for a long time, there has been a movement to highlight the damage caused to the environment due to mining.
