The CPI(M) Thiruvananthapuram district conference sought speedy completion of road infrastructure projects

The Thiruvananthapuram district conference of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) has passed resolutions urging the central and state governments to speed up work on several important infrastructure projects in the district including the Vizhinjam-Navaikulam ring road, Karamana-Kalikkavila. National Highway development, and expansion of Vattiyoorkavu Junction.

The District Conference has requested the central government to start the work on the Vizhinjam-Nawaikulam ring road immediately, keeping in mind the needs of the Vizhinjam port project. The ring road project was envisioned to handle the large volume of container traffic once the port becomes fully operational. The district conference has accused the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) of dragging its feet in the project citing technical reasons.

Connecting Vizhinjam with Navaikulam, the 45-metre wide ring road is designed to span 54 km across 24 villages.

The CPI(M) conference has urged the state government to speed up the development of the Karamana-Kalikkawila section of the national highway. The land required to complete the 18 km section from Vazhimukku to Kaliakkavila should be acquired as soon as possible.
