Mumbai: A four-year-old boy died after being hit by a car driven by a 19-year-old youth in Mumbai’s Wadala area near Ambedkar College, police said. The accused, identified as Bhushan Sandeep Gole, was detained and released. According to the police, since the punishment for the crime is less than seven years, he was allowed to go home after completing the legal formalities. The crime was registered by Rafi Ahmed Kidwai Marg police station.
As Ayush Laxman Kinwade, the victim’s family lives on the pavement and his father is a labourer. According to the police, the body of the deceased was immediately taken to KEM Hospital for post-mortem.
A senior police officer said Mr. Gol was driving a Hyundai Creta. ‘The accused was not intoxicated. That’s why he was released,’ he said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Ragasudha R told this newspaper, “As per legal provisions, he (driver) has been issued a medical examination notice under Section 41A of the Indian Civil Security (BNSS) Act. The accused.”
